Agains prejudices – Clearing up
They are celebrated as the epitome of power, elegance and dynamism, but off the racetrack, English thoroughbred horses have a rather dubious reputation. “Not a beginner’s horse!”, “Only for experienced hands!” is written above the sales advertisements and among riders they are considered “unpredictable”, “difficult to handle” and “physically battered”.
Our association aims to counter these prejudices through educational work. We inform owners of English thoroughbred horses or people who are thinking of taking on a horse from racing.
In our knowledge portal, we discuss studies from veterinary journals, provide information on treatment methods for English Thoroughbred-specific diseases, hoof diseases and much more.
We provide advice on topics such as feeding, group housing and the design of a thoroughbred-optimized open stable facility.
In the event of difficulties in handling and/or behavioral problems, we pass on our experience in the areas of “ground work”, “training” and “confidence building”.
Got Questions – Advice
In our telephone consultation hours, English thoroughbred owners can obtain detailed advice on solutions to specific challenges they are facing with their English thoroughbred. Our advisory services are provided on a voluntary basis, but are linked to a donation to the association.
If you are interested, please send us an e-mail and describe the problem you would like to discuss with us as precisely as possible. We will get back to you as soon as possible to arrange an appointment. A consultation session lasts 45 minutes and is remunerated with a donation that benefits our rescue horses.
Our consultation does not replace the consultation of your horse by your local vet. We are happy to help you find a specialist.
Networking
Over the years, our members have built up a solid network of experts. Thanks to our supporting vets, hoof experts, physiotherapists, loading professionals, hay suppliers, specialist clinics, equine therapists, equine crematoriums and specialists in all aspects of horse welfare, there is now hardly a challenge that we cannot overcome.
We connect leisure riders interested in buying with training stables, English thoroughbred owners with doctors and specialized trainers and if there is any problem we can’t solve, we usually know someone who knows someone…
In this way, we as animal welfare activists are also in close contact with those involved in racing – an exchange that is important to us and that we are happy to maintain.
